Schools mark royal birthday with special lunch menu

PRIMARY schools in Leicester will be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday with a very special lunchtime menu today (Friday 10 June).

City Catering – who provide meals to more than 80 schools in the city – is marking the occasion by offering a traditional roast, followed by a shortbread crown, or a garden party-style picnic including sandwiches, jelly and fresh strawberries.

Stokes Wood Primary School in New Parks is one of the schools taking part. Staff will be setting out red, white and blue tablecloths for the special lunch, and have been dressing the school with bunting and flags.

“The Queen’s 90th birthday is a great excuse for a party, and the children are looking forward to celebrating with a very special lunch today,” said head teacher Jane Gadsby.

“We’ve invited parents to join us for lunch, so it should be a memorable occasion for the children.”

Jane Faulks of City Catering said: “We’re glad to be able to offer local primary schools something a bit different to help them celebrate the Queen’s birthday.”
