Leicester city centre ready for Christmas shoppers

Published on 16 December 2016

SHOPPERS heading for Leicester city centre can make the most of extra park & ride services and free evening parking in the run-up to Christmas.

Park & Ride services will be running from Meynells Gorse, Enderby and Birstall again this Sunday (18th).

The first buses will head for the city centre at 10am, with the last buses returning to the car parks at 5.30pm.

A Sunday service will operate on Monday 26 December and Tuesday 27 December, and there will be no services on Christmas Day, 1 January and 2 January.

Late-night shoppers arriving after 6pm can park for free at the city council’s two multi-storey car parks. Both Newarke Street and Haymarket car parks are waiving evening charges until 30 December to encourage people to enjoy the city centre’s festive atmosphere.

With many city centre stores open until 8pm or 9pm, a trip into town after work could be a good time to look for the perfect Christmas present.

Details of all the events taking place in Leicester this Christmas – including concerts, pantomimes, shows and children’s activities – are available on www.visitleicester.info.

They are also listed in a free Christmas guide to shopping and dining in Leicester that is widely available from city centre shops and bars, and from the Visit Leicester centre on Gallowtree Gate.
