Share your seaside memories with the Maritime Memories Machine

Published on 16 June 2017

RESIDENTS of land-locked Leicester are being invited to share their special memories of seaside trips for a museum exhibition.

The Maritime Memories Machine will pull up in Jubilee Square this Sunday (18 June), from 11am-3pm, collecting stories of the sea from everyone it meets.

It’s a van that’s touring the country on behalf of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, gathering information and artefacts for its new Sea Things gallery, which will showcase people’s memories and stories.

There will be lots of fun activities to watch or get involved with, including singing sea shanties, making paper seagulls to fly, creating poetry and portrait-drawing.

People will also be able to listen to tales of the sea on headphones, and share their own stories.

The Maritime Memories Machine will also be visiting Mellor Primary School on the morning of Monday 19 June, and Woodbridge children’s centre, in Belgrave, in the afternoon.
