Time to play in Town Hall Square

Published on 25 July 2017

YOUNG visitors to the city centre can celebrate National Playday next week by taking part in a day of free – and fun – activities.

The family-friendly event takes place in Town Hall Square on Wednesday (Aug 2) from 11am until 3pm.

Activities will include traditional games such as skipping, hula hooping and hook-a-duck, as well as creative play sessions, zumba classes and the chance to build dens.

There will be storytelling sessions and a stay-and-play area for parents and babies, and the Bookbus will pop by too.

Neighbourhood charity b-inspired will support the city council-run event.

Assistant city mayor for children, young people and schools Cllr Sarah Russell said: “This annual event is a great opportunity for families with young children to enjoy some fun activities together in the heart of the city centre.

“Children learn so much through play – and it’s vital to their healthy development – so we are always pleased to give this national initiative our support.”

National Playday is co-ordinated by Play England and is supported by local authorities across the UK.
