Security
The security of your payments is very important to Leicester City Council and for that reason we have chosen the Government Gateway as our provider for this service.
Security is assured through the use of:
- Secure Connections
- Encryption
- Use of Digital Certificates.
Secure Connections
The Government Gateway is a secure site. All Information that you send and receive is transmitted through a 128-bit Secure Socket Layer connection (SSL). SSL creates a secure link between your PC browser and the payments server. You will always know when you are using a secure connection because a padlock icon is displayed on the status bar of your browser. SSL also encrypts data and guarantees that it is not altered between your computer and the payments server.
No credit card data is held by Leicester City Council.
Encryption
All information that you send and receive from the Government Gateway is encrypted to the highest industry standard.
Digital Certificates
A digital certificate is required for many Government gateway transactions. This is a piece of encrypted software that confirms identity and establishes your authority to perform a particular task on the Government Gateway. Digital Certificates provide very high levels of security and all Leicester City Councils payment transactions are covered in this way.
