City Centre New Walk

The city centre plays a vital role as a focus for commerce, leisure, cultural and social activities. The quality of the city centre is not only important for those who live and work there, but also for the image of Leicester as a whole and its ability to attract tourism and investment.

New Walk is a unique 1.5km pedestrian promenade linking Victoria Park with the centre of Leicester, first laid out in 1785. New Walk Conservation Area was designated in March 1969, and has an area of just under 30 hectares.  Tree-lined, and with numerous green spaces along its length, the promenade can be viewed as a linear park.

New Walk recently underwent a major refurbishment programme and has won numerous awards.
