The Artwork

A viewing platform constructed from pre-cast concrete, visually akin to Portland Stone, with hand cast glass inlayed in a design inspired and based on the constellation of the stars.

The commission resulted from the ‘Public Art Plan for the Belgrave Riverside’, (1997).  This detailed study and strategy document was commissioned by Leicester City Council to develop an artist led programme to contribute to the visual enhancement of the area and create a unique identity.

"The aim of this installation is to create a special place where people can spend time by the river. We have focused particularly on the western bank where the river is most hidden from the nearby places where people work and live."
Juliet Bidgood
