The Artwork

"The work addresses the relationship between our public personas and the intimacy and privacy of individual desires. The bus shelter advertising spaces create a theatrical setting and the street becomes a stage on which people are invited to express their private desires – a fantastic persona!"
Melanie Manchot

For a Moment a Stage comprised a series of photograph and text-based works - portraits of Leicester people with captions - enlarged and exhibited on Adshel bus shelter advertising spaces in the city centre and along London Road (which runs parallel to the pedestrian New Walk) during February 2001. The portraits were taken of passers-by along New Walk and visitors to the the City Gallery and New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, during Kei Ito’s installation.  The caption is their response to the quetion - ‘If you could be anyone in your wildest imagination, who would you be?’

A follow up project from this work was an architectural projection, a publication launch at the Phoenix Arts Centre and an exhibition at the City Gallery during February 2003.
