Leicester City Council will be carrying out heating engineering works in various parts of the city over the next six months. We are assured that appropriate signage will be on display and we will update our website when appropriate to do so.
In the meantime, for your ceremony this will mean that normal traffic flow around Horsefair Street will be affected. If you were planning to arrive at the building via this route, you should now consider taking an alternative route.
If you are attending the Register Office for an appointment or ceremony before the end of July 2012, please allow extra time for your journey due to road works on Horsefair Street.

The staff at the office register 9,500 births and 5,700 deaths annually. In addition around 1,000 marriage ceremonies take place within the building every year together with an increasing number of civil partnership registrations.
As part of the legal preliminaries to their wedding the citizens of the City of Leicester who wish to marry anywhere other than the Church of England must give a legal notice of their intention to marry. In the course of a year more than 2,000 notices are entered in the records of this office.
The original records of all births, deaths and marriages which have taken place in the City of Leicester since 1837 are kept at the register office. Every year approximately 12,000 certified copies are issued from these historic records.
