Following the implementation of the Health Act 2006 and associated Smokefree Regulations on 1st of July 2007 virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England must now be smokefree by law. Vehicles used for work and by more than one person must also be smokefree regardless of whether the vehicle is privately owned, e.g. a taxi. A smokefree England will ensure a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.

If you are a business owner you may be considering providing a smoking shelter for your staff and customers to use. All businesses intending to construct a smoking shelter are asked to complete a Pre Planning Application which is used to feedback to the applicant whether their proposal is likely to comply, not just with the smokefree regulations, but also other associated legislation.
