Leicester City Council’s public lighting group is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of streetlights and traffic signs within the City boundaries. There are approximately 35,300 streetlights and 7,400 traffic signs in Leicester.
All streetlights and traffic signs are inspected fortnightly. However,
faults can occur in between inspections and the group relies on the
goodwill of the general public to report these faults.

Faults are usually repaired within 5 working days although the target is
for a maximum of 3 days. If a fault is detected on the underground
electricity cable repairs can take considerably longer.
