What are Supported Bus Services?
These are services that are subsidised by the council because they are not provided by a commercial bus company. They serve communities where no alternative route exits.
The following bus services are currently supported by city council funding:
10/11, 17, 21A. 36, 40, 55, 73, 81, 162,

Why are we doing this?
The City Council has prepared a draft budget for the years 2012/13 to 2014/15. In doing so, we have had to take account of the very substantial cuts which Central Government is making to our funding. In 2011/12, the Government reduced our funding by over £30m in revenue grants and £20m in capital grants. Now, because of the continued squeeze, we need to reduce our spending still further, and our budget will save £22m in 2012/13, rising to £44m by 2014/15. Whilst we have sought to find efficiencies wherever possible, the scale of the savings is such that cuts to local services are inevitable.
We have used our existing equality information and the outcome of our recent engagement with service providers, users and the wider community to help assess the likely impact that our budget proposals will have on different protected groups.
We would like your help in completing this assessment and identifying the practical steps that we might take to tackle any adverse impacts and to advance equality.
