Parking and bus lane enforcement
We issue fines known as penalty charge notices (PCNs) for illegal parking or using certain bus lanes during prohibited hours.
Parking fines are designed to encourage motorists to comply with parking regulations. A higher fine will be charged for more serious offences. The higher rate charge is £70 and the lower rate charge is £50. They will be reduced to £35 and £25 respectively if paid within 14 days.
If you have been issued with a PCN, you can pay it in three ways:
- Online - please note that some PCNs will not appear on the system until one working day after the notice has been issued.
- Post a cheque to Penalty Charge Payments, PO Box 8456, The Cash Office, Leicester LE1 6ZG.
- Automated telephone system, by calling 0116 454 1012 and selecting option five.
Bus lane penalty charge notices
We enforce appropriate bus lane use in certain areas of Leicester to help reduce congestion and pollution, and to improve the reliability and punctuality of public transport.
It is an offence to drive in any bus lane within the prohibited hours, which are displayed at the start of the lane. Where no hours are shown, traffic is prohibited from using the bus lane 24 hours a day.
We use CCTV cameras to identify vehicles and drivers using bus lanes within prohibited hours may be fined.
Certain vehicles can use bus lanes at any time:
- Licensed taxis
We operate a tow-away enforcement scheme to resolve illegal parking and persistent non-payment of fines. If you park illegally in Leicester, your vehicle may be removed and taken to a secure compound where a release fee and daily storage charges are payable.
For more information call us on 0116 454 6300. Please be advised that the police can also tow away vehicles. They can be contacted on 0116 222 2222.
