Audio Tracks                                Films on YouTube

Leicester based poet and international artist, Jean 'Binta' Breeze has completed the first ever writer in residence at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. Jean, one of the original 'dub' poets, has performed all over the world since the 1970s.

She has worked as a director and scriptwriter for theatre, television and film and as a lecturer. Her latest book, 'Third World Girl', is published by Bloodaxe Books.

During Jean's residency at the museum, she performed as part of the Lyric Lounge festival, met the museums staff and visitors, and looked at stories about the life of New Walk Museum & Art Gallery and how people in Leicester feel about their museum and its collections.

Available to download below, a leaflet containing a selection of Jean's poems and podcast recordings of Jean reciting her poems, inspired by, and written during, her residency at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

Short films featuring Jean reciting her poems from her residency are also available on the Leicester Museums YouTube channel.

The residency was sponsored by Writing East Midlands, the region's literature development agency, supported by Arts Council England, as part of 'Write Here' which places writers in a variety of host organisations including schools, museums, libraries, and community organisations.
