Gilroes Cemetery
Comprising 28 acres, with its entrance on Groby Road and exit on Anstey lane.

Opened in 1902, Gilroes is on south facing slope with the newest parts nearest to Anstey lane. There is a general burial area, plots for interment of ashes, a children's section, the Jewish cemetery , two areas for strewing of ashes and memorial rose gardens.

Gilroes is a lawn cemetery, that is to say no surrounds are allowed on graves.

Gilroes Crematorium
The Crematorium is in the middle of Gilroes Cemetery.

Services times are available from 9.00 am til 4.00 pm and each service time is for 45 minutes. This can be extended if required. Seating is available for 85 people, with ample standing room if needed.

Music can be provided either on the organ, or by tapes/CD's which are played via the chapel's music system. Live music is welcomed.

For those people with hearing difficulties an induction loop has been installed. External speakers are also available. The chapels are non-denominational, so different religions can hold their funeral services in appropriate surroundings.

Belgrave Cemetery
This is a small Victorian cemetery, just 5 acres, with its entrance at the bottom of Red Hill Way (A563). There are no new graves available here but interments can be arranged in existing graves where there is still space.

There is no chapel at Belgrave, so services should be arranged elsewhere or at the graveside

Saffron Hill Cemetery
This is our other large cemetery, serving the south of Leicester. Its entrance and exit are both on Stonesby Avenue which is close to the southern Ring Road, Asquith Way (A563).

The cemetery has the general burial area, a children’s section and the Muslim cemetery and prayer house. The chapel is in the ‘Beaux Arts’ style with large central tower. There is seating for 65 people and ample standing room. This year we plan a major refurbishment with new heating, lighting and music systems.

The Muslim prayer house or janazgah is the only one of its kind in Europe to date and our Muslim burial system has become a model for many other providers.

Welford Road Cemetery
Leicester's first municipal cemetery, Welford Road Cemetery lies approximately a mile south of the city centre on the A5119. There are no new graves available here but interments can be arranged in existing graves where there is still space.

A surprisingly tranquil spot, it is a classic Victorian cemetery with many of Leicester’s eminent personalities buried here and offers spectacular views across Leicester and beyond to the Charnwood hills.

The Cemetery has recently benefitted from a restoration project, with new landscaping, pathways and a brand new Visitor Centre located by the main entrance. The centre is open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and has information, leaflets and a public toilet suitable for disabled visitors.
