Working with you to improve Leicester’s environment
The City Wardens will help improve the environment of the city of Leicester by working with partners and local communities.
Objectives
The aims of this service are to:
- Improve the quality of the local environment,
- To engage with local communities to promote the local environment, and
- To provide a visible and approachable “on-the-street” reassuring presence and point of contact for the public.
Duties of the wardens
The wardens duties will cover a wide range of issues including; litter, graffiti, fly-posting, nuisance parking (vehicles for sale or being repaired on the highway), leaflet distribution, dog fouling, bins on streets, and waste duty of care. They will also observe and report any other issues relating to Leicester City Council Services.
The wardens will be dedicated to specific wards to help develop local knowledge and links with community and other local services. They will be briefed daily to ensure they patrol specific areas and problems. The City Wardens will be approachable and informative to the local community and visitors alike.
Wards covered by the wardens will be:-
- Castle (including City Centre)
- Westcotes
- Spinney Hill and Stoneygate (one warden)
- Belgrave and Latimer (one warden)
- Beaumont Leys
- Charnwood and Coleman (one warden)
- Eyres Monsell and Freemen (one warden).
In addition to actively patrolling and dealing with issues that fall within their remit, they will create a link between the community and other environmental services that the council provide by reporting environmental crime incidents and ensuring they are dealt with efficiently.
