2001 Census

Census Day was 29th April 2001. The first results were published on 30th September 2002. During 2003, statistics for local authority areas and small areas (wards) were published.

The total population resident in Leicester on Census night was 279,923. This figure differs from previous censuses as it includes students at their place of study.

Figures and a graph, by age band and gender, are available on the National Statistics website. Also available on this site are Key Statistics for Local Authorities.
