Race Equality Scheme

Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 has placed councils under a general duty to promote race equality. This means that councils, like Leicester City Council, are expected to publish a strategy and action plan called a "Race Relations Scheme".

The Race Equality Scheme has to summarise our approach to race equality - how we aim to: eliminate unlawful racial discrimination; promote equality of opportunity; and promote good relations between people of different racial groups in our role as service provider and as an employer.

This is a revised scheme which is still subject to formal approval.
