About Leicester City Council
Our Aim
To make Leicester more attractive for our diverse communities to live, work and invest in.
Our Strategic Priorities
- to raise educational standards and skills irreversibly so that all schools are good schools and individuals are committed to learning through life
- to improve our environment to make local neighbourhoods and the city centre places for people to be proud of
Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)
Every council has to go through an annual comprehensive performance assessment carried out by the Audit Commission. Leicester City Council is currently a three-star authority.
Beacon Status
The City Council has an excellent track record in achieving Beacon status for some of its services. Beacons are awarded by the government for areas of best practice. We have received beacons for the following services:
- housing maintenance
- maintaining a quality environment
- promoting racial equality
- community cohesion
- tackling homelessness
- housing renewal
- sustainable energy
- sport and culture for hard-to-reach groups
Financial Accountability
The Council operates a three-year budget strategy to give a degree of stability and direction in the Council’s financial planning.
The budget strategy, flowing from the corporate plan, sets out the Council’s over-riding financial policies and is revised on an annual basis.
