Can we personalise the Marriage Ceremony?
Allowing for certain restrictions it is possible to adapt the marriage ceremony. The most frequently requested changes are dealt with below. If you have any other alteration in mind then please speak to a Superintendent Registrar for advice. It is very important that any changes you wish to make are requested before the wedding day.
Can the bride come into the marriage room separately from the bridegroom?
The bride is welcome to make a “grand entrance” into the marriage room with all the guests already in place. One or more people of her choice may accompany her. This is achieved by interviewing the bride and groom separately before the ceremony so that they do not see each other until the bride makes her entrance.
Can we change the words we have to say?
The law of this country allows for a shorter version of the marriage vows to be spoken. This is available on request.
Alternatively, it is possible to add your own words to those shown in the marriage ceremony. Any extra vows must be non-religious and will need to be produced in writing to us prior to your wedding day.
Do you allow any readings during the ceremony?
Readings can be included in the ceremony. As with the additional vows any readings must be non-religious and we would need to have a copy in advance. You would need to discuss with the Superintendent Registrar who will be dealing with your wedding exactly whereabouts in the ceremony the reading or readings will be inserted. We would expect the reading to be spoken by someone you have selected.
Is it possible for us to have some music played on CD/tape?
Subject to permission being given by the approved venue for a CD/cassette player to be used we would be happy for music to be incorporated into your marriage ceremony.
Once again the important points to remember are that the music must be non-religious and we would need to have details in advance.
You would need to discuss with the Superintendent Registrar who will be dealing with your wedding exactly whereabouts in the ceremony the music is to be played.
Can people take photographs during the ceremony?
To avoid disruptions and distractions our policy is for photographs not to be taken during the ceremony. Upon completion of the ceremony some time is allocated for photographs. This enables anyone who has a camera to be involved.
The Superintendent Registrar may assist in creating an “action replay” of the signing of the register and giving of the ring(s). Dependent upon any restrictions imposed by the approved venue, it may be possible for a number of photographs to be taken within the marriage room.
Is video recording allowed?
We allow one video camera to be in use during the ceremony. This is to be operated by the person you have requested. The operator must have signed a video agreement form.
Is there anything else we should know about the ceremony?
If you have any guests who may have difficulty in understanding the vows you are making we would be pleased to supply a translation for their use during the ceremony. Translations are currently available in more than 20 different languages. You would need to make your request prior to the wedding day.
During the time that you are in the marriage room your faces must be visible. A veil may be worn provided that your face can be clearly seen through it.
All mobile phones must be either switched off or in silent mode when brought in to the marriage room.
