Director's message

As you may know Sheila Lock is currently acting as Interim Chief Executive of Leicester City Council and I have taken on the role as Interim Corporate Director in her absence.

You will be aware from discussions at your governing body meetings and local media coverage that Leicester City Council has recently launched its “Transforming Leicester’s Learning” strategy.  This has been designed to address the issues of low attainment and aspirations and to develop and support our staff to deliver high quality services to children and young people.

We recognise that you, as governors, are key partners in ensuring that we get this right not only in the shorter term for our current pupils and students, but also for all our future ones.  It is only reasonable therefore that governors too should have access to high quality and wide ranging training and development opportunities and you will see more focused support and training opportunities being offered over the next few months.  I would like to encourage you to take up these opportunities.  In addition, the Governor Services Team has redesigned this governors’ online centre so that it contains current information, is easier to use and more accessible.

Finally, can I add my personal thanks for the commitment and dedication you give to our schools, as strategic partners and leaders working with headteachers and senior leaders.  Together we can succeed to make our schools places where children and young people excel in every aspect and are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
