The Million Meals campaign is being spearheaded by the school food trust, in partnership with a range of well known organisations interested in the health and eating habits of children and young people.

The aim of the campaign is simple – to have a million more children eating school lunches by the end of 2010.

The Million Meals campaign is focusing on helping schools make the changes that will make a difference to meal take up. Put simply the campaign will work to support head teachers and the school leadership team to make incremental changes and ensure a long-term sustainable approach to increasing school meal up-take.

The templates for success are:

  • Involve pupils
  • Engage parents and carers
  • Involve adults as role models
  • Make food and drink integral to the whole day
  • Maximise take-up of free school meals
  • Take positive steps to reduce packed lunches
  • Promote and market food effectively
  • Make the food tasty and attractive
  • Make lunchtime a good experience
  • Manage resources

11 of our city school have already signed up to the Million Meals campaign
