Education Provision for Permanently Excluded Pupils

What education is provided for pupils who are permanently excluded?
Tuition is provided through the Student Support Services’ Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). A teacher from the service will visit you to arrange continuing education until your child is admitted to a new school.

My child is studying for his/her GCSE’s. What happens to them?
If your child in year 10 or year 11, they will have the opportunity to develop an individual education programme, tailored to their needs. This could include doing GCSE, NVQ, or GNVQ courses at a local college of further education. They will also have the opportunity to do work experience and will receive careers advice.

How long will my child be out of school?
The LA will always aim to keep your child out school for the shortest period of time. It is normally the length of time taken to secure an alternative school placement. If this is proving difficult to place your child, owing to the severity of the behaviour or lack of school places, the LA will refer your child to a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) with the Student Support Services for an interim education provision.
