Leicester Libraries launched two new BookBuses on May 24th 2008 at The Brite Centre, Leicester. The new buses replaced the old vehicles, which came into service in 1992/95. This will be the third transformation of the popular mobile library service for children which first appeared in Leicester in 1981 as part of the inner city programme. The aim then, as now was to provide a direct street level service for children 0-11 years, with the emphasis on an accessible and fun introduction to reading.
