Boys into Books
Leicester Libraries will launch the Boys into Books scheme at the Walkers Stadium on 10th November 2008, from 10.30am to 12.00noon.
 
The children’s author Pete Johnson, previous winner of Our Best Book Award, chosen by Leicester’s primary school children and winner of the Braunstone Book of the Year, will attend and talk to boys from three Leicester primary schools (Abbey Primary, Parks Primary and Caldecote Primary).
 
Leicester Libraries, in partnership with Leicester City Football Club will run a reading challenge in city schools, linked to the Boys into Books scheme, called Read the Walkers Stadium. It’s Boys v Girls in a race to fill the Walkers Stadium with books read. The challenge will run till the end of February 2009, with match tickets as incentives for the keenest readers.
 
Boys into Books is a scheme to promote reading by boys, funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, as part of The National Year of Reading. As part of this scheme, Leicester Libraries will supply book collections to all Leicester city schools, 70-80 titles per school, totalling 5000 books to promoting reading amongst boys.
