The Primary Resource Centre. Overview

basement work
What We Are.
The Primary Resource Base is a collection of materials for use in the primary classoom, and a base for the Leicester Primary Consultants teams.

We are housed in room 13 at FLEC (Forest Lodge Education Centre), next door to Forest Lodge Primary School on Charnor Road.  You can find a map here.

We try and house material reflecting current thinking and supporting new ideas in education.  Much of the INSET for Leicester Primary staff and governors takes place in this building, so the training materials for these courses are here.

There is a loan collection for serving teachers.  This includes material for numeracy and literacy work, as well as material for the SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) iniative.

What We Have.
Our book collection includes lots of oversize books, ideal for large group work.  These include literacy work keyed to specific NC requirements such as Recount, Rhyming Fiction or Stories with Predictable Text.

There are also some numeracy materials of similar size and scope, including the 'Mathemetics from Many Cultures' sets.

We do not yet have the entire catalogue available on this page.  However there are sections of the stock listed at the foot of this page in pdf format.

The Numeracy resources include games and activities for children, topic centred books to support specific curriculum areas, material to bring teachers up to date on new approaches, and ranges of materials for the classroom to develop projects around.

There are many posters for loan. Borrow these!  They are an excellent way to keep the classroom environment from getting stale.

Seal Display
What is Seal?
Not all schools are included in the SEAL programme, but I'm sure all schools are doing SEAL work.
SEAL stands for Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning and includes working with children on

‘The underpinning qualities and skills that help us manage life and learning effectively’, which are
  • Self-awareness
  • Managing feelings
  • Motivation
  • Empathy
  • Social skills

We have a variety of stock to help teachers address these issues.  A catalogue to download is available below.

Story Sacks
Materials such as posters, story sacks and games are best used as  novelties which stimulate interest and engage children.

A loan service is ideal for this, as they do their best work while fresh, and save the school from purchasing high value items such as story sacks.

We have 37 story sacks. The catalogue is below.

The posters are easy to browse.

Try these out.
