Business Continuity for Businesses

What is Business Continuity?
Business Continuity Management (BCM) is planning to ensure your business or organisation returns to business as usual after any major disruption. These disruptions might be caused by:

  • severe weather
  • flooding
  • fire
  • power cuts
  • flu pandemics and similar
  • failures by your suppliers and partners
  • plus other factors outside your control.

What does Business Continuity mean for your business or organisation?
BCM can help reduce the impact of any incidents on your business and organisation. It is a ongoing process of assessment, preparation and planning that can help you deal with any major disruptions.

Effective BCM will include:

  • assessing risk and mitigating loss
  • examing the reliability of your key resources (goods, information, logistics support etc)
  • securing your premises and resources
  • contingency planning for the failure of ICT and other key equipment
  • staff cover and support
  • communicating with customers, partners, suppliers and others
  • plus other factors that might be relevant to your businesses or organisation.

With more insurance companies requesting Business Continuity Plans when processing claims, businesses and organisations need to ensure BCM becomes part of their ongoing operations.
