Stamp Duty Land Tax

Stamp Duty Land Tax for property transactions came into force on the 1 December 2003. A Land Transaction Return to the Inland Revenue will be required for all transactions completed on or after that date.

The SDLT1 is the main Land Transaction Return which must be completed for all transactions. This form will cover the vast majority of residential transactions. In a minority of more complex cases, supplementary returns may also need to be completed.

Question 31 of the SDLT1 form asks for the "NLPG UPRN" of the property. This stands for "National Land and Property Gazetteer Unique Property Reference Number". This information is not available from the City Council
