Housing Land Availability Assessment

LEICESTER PRINCIPAL URBAN AREA (PUA)

HOUSING LAND AVAILABILITY ASSESSMENT 2007

In 2007 Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council commissioned consultants Roger Tym & Partners to undertake a Housing Land Availability Assessment for the Leicester Principal Urban Area (PUA).

This was one of three separate studies funded through the Government’s Three Cities New Growth Point programme . Further details are available in the study brief (link below).

The study was also used to inform the draft East Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) Examination-in-Public (EiP), held during the summer 2007,about the broad scale of potential housing capacity in the Leicester PUA (Principal Urban Area) and the consequent need for Sustainable Urban Extensions to meet future housing requirements up to 2026.

The final report was submitted to the RSS EiP Panel and provides an independent assessment of land availability and considers the options for meeting the draft RSS housing target for the Leicester PUA. The study concludes that there is sufficient capacity to meet the draft RSS housing requirement for the Leicester PUA.
