Leicester Market Place: Options Appraisal and Feasibility Study

Leicester Market Place
Leicester is a growing city, receiving substantial investment in the cultural and economic sectors; the city centre is currently undergoing a major transformation. Leicester City Council owns and operates the indoor and outdoor markets in the city centre. The Market Place offers the opportunity to create a memorable destination at the heart of the city.

The City Council will shortly be appointing consultants to formulate a range of options for the markets, and to identify the best investment option to sustain and develop the markets for the benefit of traders, customers and the city centre as a whole. You can see the Consultancy Brief by opening the attachment below.

The chosen consultants will conduct:
  • Baseline Study: A financial appraisal of the current freehold and leasehold value of the outdoor and indoor markets.
  • Options Appraisal: In close consultation with the City Council and market traders, the consultants will formulate a range of options for the future of the site in accordance with local, regional and national planning policy.
  • Feasibility Study: The consultants will assess the viability of each of the options and the likely public sector funding gap.
