The Project
The Construction Training Centre is part of the ‘One Leicester’ vision and a wider strategy agenda to secure employment in the City. With the regeneration of the Leicester a large number of construction job opportunities have arisen and so the work force and future construction workers have the skills required to complete the projects required.
The centre will make this hands on practical training available to all members of the community of Leicester and the skills will be learnt in a typical ‘on site’ site environment with an emphasis.
The centre was initially aimed at both the civil engineering and highways sector offering industry recognised accredited construction training courses to ensure their work force have the most appropriate skills for their position.
Additionally, by working with schools and colleges students will be given the opportunity to make an informed choice about opting for a career in the construction industry. Children in years 9-11 will be able to learn vocational skills in construction as part of a key stage 4 engagement programme.
Working with and, and securing a commitment by local employers, to provide on-site work experience opportunities is a vital part of ensuring that trainees entering the construction industry are full prepared to be employed within the industry.
The centre comprises of six modern training rooms, a purpose made covered workshop, yard space and on-site flexible catering facilities. It is easily accessible firstly due to its location, just 2 miles from the city centre, on a local bus route and with on street parking.
