This leaflet gives key information from Leicester City Council's Environmental Statement for April 2006 to March 2007.  It highlights how the Council is tackling climate change and what residents and local organisations can do to help.

The Council operates to the exacting European EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) standard for managing its environmental impact.  Each year, we produce an Environmental Statement so that the people of Leicester can judge the environmental performance of their council.  This is the most recent Statement that covers the period April 2006 – March 2007.

Leicester City Council’s strategic objective is to improve our environment to make local neighbourhoods and the city centre places for people to be proud of.
The Environmental Policy highlights our aims and the principles to which we are working to ensure that we play our part in creating a better environment for generations to come.


Climate Change Strategy

The City of Leicester recognises the potential implications that climate change has for the environmental, economic, and social well being of the city and the wider world. It also recognises that it has a responsibility to minimise the impacts of climate change caused by, and affecting, the people of Leicester. The Leicester Environment Partnership have therefore developed a Climate Change Strategy for the city to stimulate public debate, raise awareness, and initiate a plan of action to minimise these impacts and effects.


Guide to Environment Friendly Purchasing

The purpose of this guide is to help minimise Leicester City Council’s impact on the environment by providing staff with information and practical help to assist them to buy or specify products which cause the least environmental damage.
It sets out Council policy on environmental purchasing and gives tips and advice on how to find products which will be effective, of value for money and do least harm to the environment.


Leicester Environmental Strategy

The Leicester Environment Strategy has been developed by the Leicester Environment Partnership which is made up of representatives from many organisations with environmental interests and responsibilities in Leicester.  The  strategy sets out a comprehensive vision, backed up by strategic aims, objectives and targets covering all of the main environmental issues faced by the city of Leicester.
