Lancaster school is an EMAS school and was able to demonstrate the high priority being given for environmental improvement. The judges were particularly impressed with their achievement with regard to travel planning.
The school emphasises the benefits of cycling and has over 60 pupils and 10 staff who regularly cycle to school. It has plans to improve cycle storage and to promote training and safety. The school also has ambitious plans to install a large wind turbine in the school grounds to provide renewable energy for the school.

Coleman School’s environment group has undertaken a number of projects in the last year, including planting trees and recycling cardboard and paper, and has also obtained funding for a wind turbine and a gardening club.

Montrose has planned and implemented a number of environmental improvements throughout the school. Pupils have planted trees and help run a composting system. The judges were particularly impressed with the way environmental issues are mainstreamed into the curriculum.
