Leicester - Fairtrade City

Related Image
The city of Leicester was the first large urban area to be designated as a 'Fairtrade City' by the Fairtrade Foundation.

What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade means that the people who grow or make what we buy get a fair price and fair working conditions, they can afford to put food on the table and send their children to school and we get great products in return. Simple!

The city was awarded Fairtrade status as more than 40 organisations (including the City Council) use Fairtrade products and over 60 sell it. Furthermore, over 40% of bananas sold in some city supermarkets are Fairtrade, ensuring a better quality of life for many banana growers across the world.

JustFairTrade Ltd is Leicester’s first exclusively fair trade shop. Set up as a worker’s co-operative, it sells a huge range of fairly traded products from the developing world.
