Leicester City Council's Adults and Housing department runs an apprenticeship scheme for craft trades, which covers plastering, carpentry, decorating, bricklaying, plumbing, electrics and gas servicing and maintenance.
The department recruits to the scheme annually. There are normally between ten and fifteen vacancies each year.
The course lasts five years. At the end of the course the craftsmen and craftswomen will have gained NVQ2 Maintenance Operatives, NVQ2 Gas (Corgi registration) and NVQ2 Domestic Installations (Electrics).
