Will I get a choice of Council property?
We offer all applicants a range of choices to help reduce the chances of anyone refusing an offer of accommodation. This in turn helps to speed up the housing allocation process.
As a prospective Council tenant, you will be offered:
- A choice of area where you would prefer to live. The city of divided up into 47 different areas.
- A choice of property, based on the type and size of accommodation you are eligible for.
- To apply for both Council and Housing Association vacancies, just Council or just Housing Association vacancies.
- A choice of an adapted home, if appropriate, using a specialist Adapted Housing Matching Service.
- A range of information leaflets that explain the availability of accommodation in Leicester. These include ‘Adapted Housing News’, ‘Large Family Homes’ and ‘Accommodation Guides’.
- LeicesterSwap, a chance to exchange with another Council or Housing Association tenant, without having to go onto the housing register.
Once suitable properties become available, you will be given up to two offers of accommodation based on your housing needs and the amount of points you have been awarded. Should you refuse two accommodation offers, your priority on the Housing Register in relation to other applicants will be reduced for a period of 12 months.
