What does Housing Benefit cover?
Housing Benefit can help you with the part of the rent you have to pay to live in your home, and some other charges.

It does not cover things like water charges, meals, sports facilities, laundry or nursing care. You do not have to be out of work to claim Housing Benefit. The amount of Housing Benefit you get depends on:

  • your income
  • your other circumstances (for example if you are over 60 years of age or disabled)
  • the number of people in your home who are dependant on you
  • other people who live with you
  • rent valuation done by the Rent Officer Service.

How do I report anti-social behaviour?
Leicester City Council has a policy of challenging and tackling anti-social behaviour. Anti-social behaviour includes loud music, abusive or threatening behaviour, verbal abuse, violence and damage to property.

If anti-social behaviour is by city council tenants, their children or visitors, talk to staff at your neighbourhood housing office, who will take action to help solve the problem.

If the anti-social behaviour is not by Council tenants then people wanting to complain about such behaviour from neighbours should call the Leicester Together Helpline on 0845 605 2222 or Leicestershire Police on 0116 222 2222.

The Housing Department now has a specialist team dealing with the worst cases of anti-social behaviour across the city.  Find out more about the Leicester Anti-Social Behaviour Unit.
