We run two programmes to support schools, Practical Arts and Crafts Training for teachers and classroom assistants and Active Learning Sessions for key stage 1 and 2 pupils.

Practical Arts and Crafts Training

The Taster Course, for teachers and classroom assistants, will give you the skills and confidence to learn and use new art and design techniques. The course, led by a professional, qualified and experienced artist, offers quick and simple project ideas for you to transfer to the classroom, and includes:

  • Basic hand building in clay
  • 3D and sculptural techniques
  • Ideas for turning your office laminator into a creative art tool!

The Taster Course will run on the following dates, between 1.00 - 4.00pm:
  • 26 February 2008
  • 15 April 2008
  • 13 May 2008

To pre-book a place or for more information, please contact Fosse Arts Centre on fossearts@leicester.gov.uk or 0116 222 1904

This course costs £45.00 per teacher or classroom assistant, which includes all materials, handouts including step-by-step instructions, and refreshments

Active Learning Sessions

Our active learning sessions use exciting arts projects to bring your curriculum to life. Four different active learning sessions for key stage 1 and 2 pupils are available, each led by a producing artist expert in the field

  • Textiles: Investigating materials through weaving and words. Children will explore weaving techniques using natural, found, man-made and recycled materials. We use examples of woven objects to inspire learning
  • Sculpture and 3D-construction: Taking inspiration from famous sculptures, children will use a range of materials to create their own artwork
  • Containers: Looking at the work of three-dimensional artists, children will use pattern and colour with various kinds of clay to press mould their own highly individual container
  • Footwear: Drawing on Leicester’s manufacturing traditions, children will make their own outrageous ceramic shoes - flying shoes, singing shoes, teapot shoes - the wacky design is up to them.

Sessions are held on Tuesdays and need to be prebooked.  To book a session or for more information, including pre-visit ideas, please contact Fosse Arts Centre on fossearts@leicester.gov.uk or 0116 222 1904
