In 2001, extensive consultation with residents and cultural providers was undertaken in Leicester, and the vision that came from this formed the basis of the city's Cultural Strategy – ‘Diverse City: A vision for cultural life in Leicester’.

 

The strategy sets a vision for Leicester as a place where:

 

 

To assist the implementation of the Cultural Strategy, a multiagency Cultural Strategy Partnership was established.  Leicester's CSP is one of the most diverse Partnerships of its kind, and has a membership of 50 partners bringing together organisations from the public, private, community, voluntary and education sectors. 

 

The CSP is a theme partnership of the Local Strategic Partnership, and has ensured culture is embedded in the Strategy for Leicester and Leicester's Local Area Agreement. 

 

The Cultural Strategy and Improvement Team in Leicester City Council, provide executive support and and facilition to the CSP. The team also contributes to the development of Council-wide policies and strategies by ensuring that cultural issues are highlighted in matters that affect life for people living in Leicester.

The team supports the cultural life of the city by bringing different groups and organisations together to engage with any number of issues that affect Leicester.
