Cultural and Creative Ambassadors Project

Welcome.
This Scheme helps teachers gain access to cultural and creative information and opportunities for the arts such as dance and drama, humanities and beyond. It is open to schools across Leicester City and Leicestershire County and works by making sure the right information gets to the right person at the right time in schools.

Lemon Jelly Arts are offering a free dance or drama workshop day to all Primary Schools who book before September 30th 2008. Lemon Jelly is a vibrant, fun company dedicated to progression through performing arts. The workshops are designed to assist learning development across the curriculum, develop new skills, release confidence, enhance learning and have fun.

The Open Museum is running a series of  Write:Muse Creative Experience Workshops to complement the publication of the Words & Things guide. These taster workshops for teaher of English at both Primary and Secondary Levels will give you the opportunity to engage in creative writing with experienced workshop facilitators. You will explore how the creative approach to literacy, suggested in Words & Things, can work for you and your pupils. The workshops will also introduce you to the Open Museum’s extensive collections of resources, and you’ll get a free Words & Things guide to take away.
 
Places are limited so early booking is recommended. Donington le Heath Manor House is a small, secure and friendly site which makes the perfect setting for educational visits. The Manor House, which dates back to the 13th century, is a great ‘authentic’ setting to help pupils learn about the past. Along with the visits that are available throughout the year such as ‘Life in Tudor Times’ there are also a number of Seasonal Sessions now available to book including ‘Gunpowder Plot’ and ‘Tudor Christmas at the Manor’. Alongside the visits to the site the outreach team are now available to come to you for sessions such as ‘Say no to Bullying: A Tudor Witch Hunt’.

An evening of Indian Classical dance presenting short Kathak, Bharanatyam and Odissi pieces leading to the newly commissioned Urjah. A production produced and directed by Nilima Devi as a fund raising event for Special Olympic Appeal. The evening promises to be an experience in Indian dance not to be missed. As part of the Diwali festival CICD would like to also offer demonstrations and workshops to schools.

16 year old Toby believes he's a failure. He's losing the will to live. Toby's parents are out seeking help for him the night he decides to end it all. Luckily, having forgotten 'something important' Grandma Lilly interrupts to lead Toby into a mystery of half memories and family secrets. Finding the answers might just save both their lives.
A dark comic play about finding hope…and what happens when it's taken away. Suitable for young people aged 14+ £7 Adult / £5 Child

The Spark Children’s Arts festival 2009  The 2009 Festival takes place between 25th May and 7th June 
Would your school like to take part in Spark 2009?
The Spark Children’s Arts Festival came alive again in Leicestershire and all over the City in summer 2008, bringing theatre and dance, music and visual arts to children under 13, in many different venues. This includes bringing performances into schools, enabling schools to attend performances around Leicester and Leicestershire (including a transport subsidy) as well as exciting opportunities for teachers.
 
The programme for “At Your School” performances will be sent out during the Autumn Term.  A full schools programme (which this year will include performances at the new Curve Theatre) will be announced early in the Spring term. To make sure you are on our schools mailing list and have the opportunity to book early for next year, please contact Harriet Roy on 0116 291 6893 or via email admin@sparkfestival.co.uk giving a contact name and how you would like the information (via email or post).

Not About Heroes - Clap Trap Productions   As part of Centre Stage, Leicestershire's rural touring scheme 
A moving and intimate drama by Stephen macDonald about the real-life realtionship between two great First World War poets, Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. The play, taken from their actual writings, shows the 'strangely fruitful encounter between Siegfried Sassoon, soldier, poet and war hero, now obsessed with exposing every sham ideal used to justify war, and Wilfred Owen, recovering from shell-shock, looking desperately for a hero who was not immune to the pity of war' (Times Literary Supplement). An evening not to be missed!

Art Workshops for Pupils working at Key Stages 1 and 2
Art Workshops for Pupils working at Key Stages 1 and 2   From September 2008:  
Workshop 1 - Egyptian workshop
To include the making of a head cloth/jewelled collar using paper, card, glue, and sequins. Further 2D activities are included, also activity sheets and puzzles. A fun session that enhances the theme of 'The Egyptians' appropriate to the historical and geographical content behind the subject of these ancient people delivered as part of the national curriculum for children of primary school age.
 
£85 for a half day session for a maximum of 30 children plus artists travel expenses, Delivered in school by teacher/community artist in partnership
 
Workshop 2 - Clay 'seated figure' workshop
The session will allow pupils to make their own interpretation of a seated figure using air drying clay. Participants will work through an artist led session, where, through step by step instruction, they will learn how to mould the human form to full effect and adapt fixing techniques using this versatile medium.
 
£85 per half day session, full day £120, plus artists travel expenses - Maximum 30 children

Then come and join Mrs Winifred Pillage, the headmistress of the world-famous Skull’s Crossbone School of Piracy, for this special swashbuckling assembly. There’s plenty of comedy, songs, storytelling, puppetry and audience participation in this show and – even a smidgeon of history thrown in for fun. Prize for the best-dressed pirate!

The exciting new courses for the autumn term are now available and open to the public. You will see that we are running more offsite workshops at the Rufford Craft Centre, which will now be a regular feature to our course programmes. In addition we have some new courses such as Recycled Prints and Silkscreen Artists Books, in addition to favourites such as Screen-printing, Lithography and a 10 week evening class in Etching.
