The City Gallery and Regent College
One of the great benefits of the Cultural and Creative Ambassadors Projects is the fact that it open up both schools and Cultural Partners to new and exciting opportunities.
One such opportunity came through the national program The Big Draw. The City Gallery, Leicester's leading contemporary art gallery, decided to take part in this initiative by engaging with a group of students in a in depth way and challenging way.
Through the Cultural and Creative Ambassadors Project a group of students from Regent College got to be this group.
Susan Collis that explored trompe l’oiel effects, utilising high craft skills to recreate apparently ordinary objects the students were encouraged to engage in a 2 part session.
The first part included a learning Officer Led gallery talk & tour, an exhibition tour and discussion as well as learning a new techniques drawing with wire workshop and creating rust prints.
The second workshop was entirely student led and was based around the revealing of rust prints & discussion, exploring the technique of mark making as well as an evaluation the artist and their work. This encouraged the student to use the skills they had developed become confident in the gallery space.
The experience was thoroughly enjoyed by students, tutor and learning officer at the City Gallery;
"Thank you for such a great time, I really enjoyed myself as I'm sure everyone else did. This experience has been very interesting!" Katy - student
"Thank you for helping me realise there is a kind of art for everyone!!" Stacey - student
"Thanks Lisa, It was a really well organised workshop and the students got so much out of it." Jacqueline - teacher
