Briefing Note 2

Leicester Shire Young Ambassadors: Briefing Note for Cultural and Creative Practitioners 2 (Draft)

Find Your Talent Pathfinder
7 August 2008

Leicester Shire Young Ambassadors has been chosen as one of 10 pathfinder projects as part of the national £25million Government programme called ‘Find Your Talent’.

The 'Find your Talent' programme aims to give young people the chance to enjoy a range of high-quality cultural experiences for five hours a week, both in and outside school. This programme will run from September 2008 – March 2011.

Leicestershire County Council is leading the project in partnership with Leicester City Council and Creative Partnerships Leicester.

Officers from Leicestershire County Council, Leicester City Council and Creative Partnerships Leicester are currently drafting a delivery plan, which will set out what will be delivered over the next three years.  This will be submitted on 31 August 2008.

Progress to date

We have started to draft the delivery plan, and our first draft will be submitted for comments on 8 August.  We are also in the process of setting up a programme management structure including a programme management board and two advisory groups and have started working on the staff team who will be delivering the pathfinder in Leicester Shire.  The first advisory group will be for children and young people with the support of an adult.  The young people advisory group will lead the development of the pathfinder and challenge the programme management board to deliver what young people really want.  The second advisory group will be a team of professional staff to support the staff team.  At the moment the staff team is likely to include a Project Director, Programme Co-ordinator and a Support Officer.  Keep and eye out as these jobs will be advertised soon.

On 31 July a temporary programme management board met at Jewry Wall Museum in Leicester, chaired by Heather Broughton, to review progress on the drafting on the delivery plan.

We are aware that many individuals and organisations around the city, county and region are interested in how to get involved in the programme and benefit from the funding.  Our first priority is to complete the delivery plan and any enquiries will be dealt with once the Plan is agreed and contracts signed, in September. However the temporary project board would like to recommend to current partners and potential partners that aligning the Find Your Talent pathfinder into your current work plans and future plans would be a good first step to take.

We look forward to sharing the delivery plan with you at our launch of the Leicester Shire Young Ambassadors Pathfinder in late September and working with you all over the next three years to deliver five hours of culture for every child and young person in Leicester/Shire.
