Ghosts at Wygston's House

Haunted Wygston House
The figure of an Edwardian or Georgian boy has been seen on occasions within the site of the former museum though more often than not, he is heard rather than seen.

The sound of a ball bouncing down the stairs has often been heard. Furniture is often moved around and the vacuum cleaner has occasionally been unplugged during morning cleaning sessions - and always when staff are on their own.

The little boy often manifests when other children are present. On one occasion, he was sighted standing in the old drapers shop by another young boy who immediately ran out and described the ghost to the museum staff. The description was exactly as the staff had witnessed - knickerbockers and waistcoat with a grey / blue transparency.

The most disturbing of sightings was made by one member of staff who saw the ghost on the stairs, crying and sobbing hysterically. The museum assistant came in early one morning and could hear a child crying. She went outside to see if someone was lost but, upon finding nothing, went back inside the building. Looking over at the stairs, the figure of a boy of approximately twelve years of age in Georgian costume appeared, kneeling down and crying.

No longer a museum, Wygston's House is open during special event days.
