Jewry Wall Museum
Jewry Wall Museum is placed in the wonderful setting of the remains of the Roman town's public baths. It is one of Leicester's most famous landmarks and is a rare example of Roman walling which has survived for nearly 2000 years. The Jewry Wall is the second largest surviving piece of Roman civil masonry in the country and its two arched doorways would have been situated between the bathhouse’s gymnasium and cold room. The origins of the name remains a mystery.
The adjacent museum tells the story of Leicester from prehistory through to the end of the medieval period using Leicestershire's archaeological collections. The Roman collections are particularly exciting and include excellent mosaics and magnificent examples of painted wall plaster.
