Animated Adventures 7th June to 12th October

Animated Adventures at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery from Saturday 7th June – Sunday 12th October 2008

Get an amazing behind-the-scenes insight into the science and magic of animation with W5’s exhibition, Animated Adventures featuring Wallace & Gromit, running from 7th June – 12th October 2008.

The exhibition contains seven original sets used in the making of the movie ‘Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were-rabbit’. Visitors can take a sneak peek inside Lady Tottington’s sumptuous home, see Wallace and Gromit’s bunny-laden basement and get a closer look at Wallace’s new Anti Pesto van. Visitors can even see how the furry buck-toothed Were-rabbit was constructed in a stage-by-stage display!

Taking everyone on an interactive journey through all things animated, Animated Adventures captures the full animation process from storyboards to post production.

Find out how the world’s top animators create their on-screen characters and discover the art of cel painting, stop frame, CGI technology and plasticine modelling. Many industry secrets are revealed through a fun and engaging mix of hands-on exhibits, mini documentaries, sets, models and graphic pods that guarantee to get everyone animated!

Did you know for example, that a whopping 2.7tons of plasticine was used in the production of Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were-rabbit, equivalent to the weight of a Land Rover, and each character gets a new pair of eyes every two months!

The animators featured in the exhibition include, Banjax Studios, who explain their ideas for the creation and development of GENE-FUSION AD2310 which features four superhero teens and genetically modified monsters.

According to Adrian Lutton, W5’s Design and Exhibition Manager and creator of this exhibition:

“This is a magnificent exhibition which demonstrates the huge amount of work and creative talent involved in bringing these films to our screens. This is a very exciting development for W5.  Not only have we worked with leading animators to create this exhibition but it shows W5’s ability to champion creativity and engage with the public.  We have been delighted at the response from all the animators featured in the exhibition and particularly delighted with Aardman Animations and Banjax Studios enthusiasm and help throughout the project.”
