On Saturday 31st May 2008 Humberstone Heights Golf Complex hosted the Regional Competition for the Wee Wonders 2008. The Championships now in its 15th year continued to lead the way for grass routes golf, with 70 qualifying events and 9 regional finals across Great Britain and Ireland.

 

Children were split into categories boys and girls age 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 years. Winners of the regional finals qualified for the Grand Final in August 2008 at St Andrews (Scotland).

 

The winning participants from the Humberstone Heights Qualifiers who went forward to the regional finals were as follows:

 

 

Age 5-8 : Bethany Swain

Age 9-10: Alexandra West

Age 11-12:Bethany Acey

 

 

Age 5-6 : Jayden Poole

Age 7-8: Dev Popat

Age 9-10: 1st - Coby Clue Cartwright, 2nd - David Rees, 3rd - Joseph Halfpenny

11-12: 1st - Adam Khan, 2nd - Mitchell Barnett.

 

Well done to all competitors and helpers (provided by Leicester City Council Sports Development), on a very hot day at Humberstone - they coped well under the pressure of the event and the heat and there was some excellent golf on display! Special congratulations should go to our home grown talents; Beth Acey and Coby Cartwright - WPGC members, Adam Khan, Dev Popat and David Rees - HHGC members. It goes to show golf is working at our Two public golf courses.
