Leicester City Council has invested large amounts of money building new sports facilities and upgrading existing ones. In the last 12 months alone, £2 million pounds has been spent on new construction.

Saffron Lane Sports Stadium now has a new athletics track and a brand new clubhouse and changing rooms. There are new fitness studios at Aylestone Leisure Centre and Evington Pool, which also has a new sports hall and upgraded changing rooms. The poolside there has been retiled too.

The council has spent a further £250,000 upgrading its other Lifestyle Fitness studios with brand new equipment arriving at Aylestone, Evington, Leicester Leys and Spence Street giving the gyms a fresh, modern look.

New, open plan reception areas at Aylestone and Leicester Leys are more open and customer friendly. They also give better access to disabled customers. There are also new lockers at Aylestone and the floor in the sports hall has been resealed. At Leicester Leys, the dry side changing rooms have been improved.

2007 will see continued work at Leicester Leys and Cossington Street.
