Saffron Lane Sports Centre
Undoubtedly the biggest investment, around £1.4 million, is at Saffron Lane Sports Centre. Now completed, the new facilities include a new £400,000 synthetic track surface, the purchase of state of the art field sports equipment and a new £1million purpose built changing facility.
The development also includes a clubroom, facilities for both able bodied and disabled athletes and offices for staff and the centre's Athletics Development Officer.
In July 2006 Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards officially reopened the sports stadium after its revamp. The centre is being heralded as one of the best athletics venues in the region and it is hoped that it will help talented athletes follow in the Jonathan’s footsteps and become stars of the future. Athletes will be encouraged to train here as they prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games, in London.
