Current Projects
Cossington Street Sports Centre
Almost a quarter of a million pounds is being spent on improving the pool, health suite and reception area at Cossington Street Sports Centre. This will ensure local needs are met and hopefully will encourage more people from the local community to visit the centre.
The second phase of a major refurbishment scheme at a city swimming pool is due to begin. The latest stage of work will involve installing new changing areas and showers and improved lighting in the reception area.
Public consultations were carried out earlier this year so visitors could contribute their views on the proposed changes.
The refurbishment means the pool and sauna will close from Monday, November 5, for an estimated three months. Other facilities at the centre, including the outdoor ball court and sports hall will remain open and unaffected by the work.
Earlier this year, the first phase of work replaced the pool liner and installed a new dehumidifier unit to improve air quality for swimmers.

Leicester Leys Leisure Centre
The £250,000 revamp of the centre in Beaumont Leys will involve installing new changing areas, new poolside disabled changing rooms and refurbished female foyer toilets. In addition, all corridors will be repainted and get new carpets, and a new swimming pool chlorination system will be installed.
Leicester Leys Leisure Centre’s wet side facilities - including the swimming pool, changing areas and showers - will close from Monday, November 12, until Friday, January 7, for extensive improvements to be carried out.
The rest of the leisure centre, including the sports hall, squash courts, fitness suite, climbing wall, bar and crèche will remain open as normal.
During the closure, staff will be working on an improved programme of swimming lessons and fitness suite sessions, along with a new swimming timetable to include ladies-only sessions and aquafit classes, which will begin once the pool reopens.

Football Investment Strategy
Public Consultation on proposals to invest over £12.5 million in grassroots football in Leicester took place in October 2007.
Drop-in sessions for members of the public to discuss the plans with representatives from Leicester City Council, Leicestershire and Rutland County Football Association and the National Football Association were held across the city during October.
The investment proposals are for new football and ball court facilities at 10 sites around the city.
The council will fund half of the £455,000 design and development costs and the Football Foundation the rest. Another bid will be made to the foundation for half the money needed for the overall project. The proposals were announced last month and have the support of Leicester City Football Club, which has offered training and coaching help.
Consultation details can be found here. For more information contact Mark Laywood at Leicester City Council on 0116 252 6713.
