For the first time ever, Leicester will host a Big Screen in the city centre on Humberstone Gate televising sporting and cultural events for 2 weeks.
The highlight will be the Beijing handover - a once in a life time opportunity to witness London receiving the Olympic torch from Beijing. Join us on Humberstone Gate, on Sunday 24th August 2008 at around 12pm, where the BBC will be showing live coverage on the big screen. To celebrate this occasion there will be sporting celebrities giving interviews on stage.
Community Sports Displays & Workshops
8th - 22nd August
Every day fom 12noon - 2pm
Sports include martial arts, dance, basketball, freestylers and many more.
Sports Fest is back for 2008!
23rd & 24th August
10am - 4pm
Action Zone: Have loads of fun testing your football, basketball and wheelchair basketball skills. Learn how to double dutch with our skipping coach.
Health Zone: Try out your skills on the latest fitness equipment, discover traditional cultural games from the past, test your reactions with the sports wall.
Game Zone: Have fun and test your skills with our inflatable games.
The Summit: Scale the heights with our portable climbing wall.
Display Zone: Feel the beat and move your feet to the dance performances. Displays include dance mat dance off, r n b, hip-hop, urban, calypso and martial arts. Have a go at aerobics with a difference! Bounce to the beat with urban rebounding! Get on the floor with head spinning break dancing!
Beijing - London Olympic Handover Celebration!

Come and be part of one of the biggest sporting events in British history - the Olympic flag handover from Beijing to London. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Big Screen in Humberstone Gate.
Celebrate with local sports personalities, thousands of local residents and the rest of the country as we raise the London 2012 flag in our city centre and catch the Olympic fever!
The fun includes street entertainers, football skills and displays, dance shows and community displays, plus Sing the Nation (collective singing with local choirs and community groups uniting Leicester in song).
